Borrowing Rules

Borrowing Privileges
Library members are entitled to borrow books, other reading materials from the Library for their own use. Library materials cannot be borrowed on behalf of others.
  • Students are entitled to borrow 3 books for 14 days, 2 CD/DVDs for 7 days and 2 thesis/dissertation/internship reports for 7 days at a time.
  • Faculty members are entitled to borrow 10 books for 120 days, 3 CD/DVDs for 7 days, 3 thesis/dissertation/internship reports for 7 days at a time.
  • Part-time faculty members are entitled to borrow 3 books for the semester, 2 CD/DVDs for 7 days, 2 thesis/dissertation/internship reports for 7 days at a time.
  • Administrative staffs are entitled to borrow 3 books for 14 days and 2 CD/DVDs for 7 days, 2 thesis/dissertation/internship reports for 7 days at a time.
  • Library members must show their ID card to borrow books, audio visual materials and other library resources.
  • Library resources will be checked out by the assigned library staff at the circulation desk during library working hours.
  • Users may borrow books /CD/DVDs marked as Confined for few hours through ID card for photocopying.
  • All borrowers must sign the borrowing card(s) for each item borrowed.
  • Borrowed books and materials must be returned on or before the due date at the circulation desk during working hours.
  • The borrower is solely responsible for the safety, protection and proper maintenance of the borrowed materials.
  • Borrowers must allow library materials in their possession to be checked before leaving the library.
  • No official documents will be issued to the students, faculty members and administrative staff without clearance from the library.
Renewal Facility
  • Students and administrative staff can also renew the tenure of the borrowed books for another 14 days (onetime) through http://opac.easternuni.edu.bd/cgi-bin/koha/opac-main.pl (Library User Login) or bringing them to the library if there is no prior reservation for the items by other users.
Place Hold Facility
  • Holds may be placed for materials that are currently issued.
  • One can place hold through the online catalogue system.
  • Borrowers will be notified for pick-up when the item is returned.
Recall
  • EU Library reserves the right to recall borrowed materials before the due date.
Overdue and Fine
Fines are charged to encourage return of borrowed materials on the due date.
  • Item/s will be considered as overdue if any user fails to return or renew the item/s within the due date range.

  • Overdue notices will be served through e-mail to users.
  • No book(s) will be issued to any person incurring such fine until it has been paid.
  • A fine of Tk. 10/- (ten) for each book, Tk. 5/- (five) for each CD/DVD and Tk. 5/- (five) for each thesis/dissertation/internship reports will be charged per day after the due date.
  • A fine of Tk. 50/- (fifty) for each Confined book, and Tk. 25/- (twenty five) for each Confined thesis/dissertation/internship reports will be charged per day after the due date.
  • There is no option of fine waiver except on medical ground. For fine waiver or reduction of fines, students may apply to the Librarian mentioning the proper reason(s) along with relevant doctor's prescription or hospital documents, etc.
Replacement/Compensation Procedures for Lost Item
  • A report addressed to the Librarian is required as soon as the item(s) is lost/damaged stating reason(s).
  • Compensation for library materials damaged or lost by the borrower will be assessed by the library authority.
  • Replacements/compensation procedure for lost or damaged items should be completed within next ten working days after reporting.
  • The borrower must replace the lost book/CD/DVD by a new and unused copy of the same author(s), title, and edition. The old edition can be replaced by the latest edition.
  • User will be liable for the full replacement cost and accumulated fine for the item borrowed.
  • If the library material borrowed by students is not returned within 3 (three) months after due date, it will be assumed that the borrowed item was lost by the borrower. She/he will be liable for its replacement cost and accumulated fines.
  • If students who have discontinued their studies but have overdue book(s), library authority will withdraw their library caution money for realizing replacement cost and accumulated fines for the item borrowed. If the replacement cost and accumulated fine exceeds the amount of their caution money, they will be legally liable to pay the rest of the money. 
  • Replacement of books/CDs/DVDs will be verified by any Member of Library Purchase Committee or Internal Auditor.
